Exceptional Results at Uffculme

Uffculme School students and staff are celebrating a truly exceptional set of GCSE results as a remarkable 86% of the year group achieved the gold standard of 5 or more A*-C results including English and Maths in this year’s public examinations. These outstanding results are an improvement of 3% from last year and this is the fifth successive year of increased results. They represent the culmination of five years of hard work and reflect students’ outstanding commitment to their studies alongside the very positive relationships which they have built up with their teachers.

Headteacher Lorraine Heath said “We are all absolutely delighted that these young people have done so well. Once again students have smashed their targets and produced the best results in the history of the school. They prove that the combination of a strong, supportive culture, hard work, valuing success, determination and excellent teaching really does make a difference. This is an even greater achievement when taken in the context of more demanding courses, harder exams and rising grade boundaries. We are enormously proud of these young people whose hard work and talents have been rewarded with deservedly excellent results. The best news is that they will all be able to go on and pursue the courses or apprenticeships which they have chosen; and ensuring that young people are ready for the next stage of adult life is the reason we do what we do.”

Other key headlines include 90% of students achieving at least 5 passes at A*-C; 100% achieving at least 5 GCSEs A*-G and an exceptional number of grades being awarded at A and A*.

As always there are some wonderful individual achievements: these include Kate Stagg with 10 A* grades and an A in AS Maths; Meg Bathard with 11A* ; Thea Barnes with 10A* and 1 A grades ;  Kieran Budgell with 9A*, 1A and 2 AS results both at grade A; Harry Wheller with 8A*  1 A and two AS levels at A and B grades; Ella Moore with 9A* and 2 A grades; Ned Travers with 8A*,  2 A and AS Maths at B grades; and Rebecca Cligg with 8A* and 4 A grades. In total more than 50% of the year group achieved at least 3 A and A* grades while 45 students (25%) achieved at least 8 A and A* grades.

Congratulations to all of the students and staff of Uffculme School for another amazing year of results.

Welcome to the website of Uffculme School. I hope that what you see and read here gives you a flavour of our school but the best way to find out about us is to come and see for yourself. Visitors are always welcome and we will be happy to show you around should you wish to pay us a visit.

Uffculme is an 11-16 comprehensive secondary academy with just under 1000 students on roll. We were the founding school of Uffculme Academy Trust and currently work closely with just one other school, Uffculme Primary School. We are situated in a beautiful location on the edge of the Blackdown Hills and within easy reach of Taunton, Exeter, Exmoor and Dartmoor. We have the most amazing views of rolling countryside from most of our classrooms.

At Uffculme we believe that school should be a happy place where adults and children have fun. Students should enjoy learning; and teachers enjoy teaching. We believe that school is a place where you can make mistakes and learn from them and where kindness and good manners are as important as academic success. We are incredibly proud of our students and all of their achievements; of the way that they throw themselves into the vast selection of extra-curricular opportunities; and the way that they look after each other. Relationships between staff and students are exceptionally strong and this ethos is built on trust and confidence underpinned by the support of our wonderful families.

We pride ourselves on our comprehensive status and believe strongly in inclusion. We are also however passionate about excellence and have tried to create a culture where every child strives to do his or her very best. Because of this our outcomes are truly exceptional and we are reliably the top performing non-selective state school in Devon with examination results consistently over 80% for five or more GCSEs at A*-C including English and Maths. Consequently we have received many national awards and accolades over recent times to recognise the quality of the education provided here at Uffculme but none is as important as the confidence of our community.

In 2007 Ofsted graded Uffculme as Outstanding and again in 2014. Inspectors were particularly impressed by the conduct of our wonderful students, the way in which they support one another and their determined and positive attitudes to all aspects of school life. They commended the high quality of teaching and learning and the high aspirations of all students whose behaviour was described as “exemplary”. The full 2014 Ofsted report can be read here - Ofsted 2014

If you wish to be part of our success as a parent, student, employee or friend please do not hesitate to get in touch to find out more.

Yours sincerely

Lorraine Heath Headteacher
