Ofsted Outstanding Again!
We are extremely proud that the recent inspection by Ofsted judged Uffculme School to be Outstanding in all respects. Inspectors were impressed with all aspects of school life but in particular the way in which the school works as a harmonious learning community. Praise was given to teachers for their commitment to delivering high quality lessons and to the students for their outstanding attitudes to learning. The report identifies the spiritual, moral, social and cultural provision as being particularly strong and judges the school’s work to keep students safe and secure to be outstanding. Students make outstanding progress and achieve highly whilst behaviour is described as “exemplary”.
Exceptional Results Again!
Uffculme School students and staff are once again celebrating a record breaking set of exam results as 80% achieved the gold standard of 5 or more A*-C results including English and Maths in this year’s GCSEs. These results are the culmination of five years of hard work and the students’ remarkable success is a reflection both of their commitment to their studies and the very positive relationships which they have built up with their teachers.
Headteacher Lorraine Heath said “We are all absolutely delighted that these students have done so well. Alongside being one of the hardest working year groups, they have also displayed exceptional personal qualities. Right up until the last exam they maintained their focus and showed outstanding ambition and dedication. In a context of exam turbulence and rising grade boundaries, these results prove that the combination of talent, hard work and excellent teaching pays off. This is the third year in a row that at least 80% of the cohort have achieved 5 or more A*-C passes including English and Maths and to maintain such high levels of performance while results are falling nationally is a tremendous achievement. GCSEs are important because they open the doors to the next stage of students’ education and I am delighted that our students have been justly rewarded with grades which will secure their chosen college courses or apprenticeships. We are extremely proud of all of these young people and congratulate them wholeheartedly on their well-deserved success.”
90 % of students achieved at least 5 passes at A*-C with an exceptional number of grades at A and A*. On top of this 36 higher ability students have achieved passes at AS level in RE and Additional Maths; the first year the school has run both of these courses. A number of subjects achieved record breaking results with the best ever recorded results in Geography, French, German, RE and all three Sciences. 100% of students picked up at least 5 GCSE or equivalent passes with every single student attaining at least one pass at C or above.
As always there are some wonderful individual achievements: these include Alannah Travers and Michael Winter who both achieved a superb 8 A* and 2 A grades; and Lucy Cheetham, Tom Roberts and Emma Hills all picking up 7A* grades and 3 A grades. These results alongside those gained by the rest of their year group will no doubt once again confirm Uffculme’s status as one of the top performing comprehensive schools in the south west.
