The Music Department is a thriving hub for musical development within the school.

It contains two large teaching spaces, a designated computer suite running Sibelius 7 and Mixcraft software, as well as six practice rooms for rehearsal and instrumental tuition.

The department boasts a wide range of musical resources including a full samba kit, a class set of keyboards, a set of acoustic guitars, seven upright pianos, one grand piano, three acoustic drum kits, one electronic drum kit and variety of smaller percussion instruments.  During their time at Uffculme School, pupils can expect to make use of all of these resources at different points in Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4.

During Key Stage 3 pupils follow the National Curriculum’s programme of study, allowing pupils to acquire and develop essential skills in performing, composing, listening and evaluating through building acquaintances with a variety of different styles and genres of music.  These skills then prepare pupils for Key Stage 4 if they choose to take Music as a GCSE subject.

In Key Stage 4 pupils follow the AQA GCSE course, a largely practical music based course with a focus on performance and composition.

The Music Department is proud to offer a wide range of instrumental tuition through the peripatetic teachers who come in once a week.  Currently pupils can choose to have individual or small group lessons (numbers permitting) for the following instruments:

Tuba, Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone, Piano, Voice, Keyboard, Violin, Electric/Acoustic Guitar, Bass Guitar and  Drum Kit.

For more information on instrumental tuition please contact Mrs Lynne Moyle in the Finance Office.
