I feel that drama is a subject that you can express your feelings; it is a highlight of my week. When I do drama I put in my full 100% effort into it. I think that you need Drama for everything in life like job interviews to working in a shop. Drama is the best subject in the world! - Henry, Year 8

All Key Stage 3 students at Uffculme are taught Drama for 1 hour each week. Lessons are practical and centred around using explorative strategies and developing a range of Drama skills and techniques that not only will prepare students for Drama in Key Stage 4 and beyond but are also invaluable across all other subject areas. Students are taught how to engage imaginatively and intellectually with drama forms and conventions through scripted and devised performances.

Key Stage 3 students are also involved in our fun filled extra-curricular activities which include a Key Stage 3 Drama club, and the opportunity for all Year 7 students to go to the theatre. Regular theatre trips prove hugely popular. Gifted and Talented Drama students also have the option of attending an additional Drama Club with older students.

In Key Stage 4 students are given the opportunity to further develop their creative skills. Students regularly perform their work to invited audiences, encouraging the confidence and skills that have been nurtured in Key Stage 3 to continue to build and develop.

There is a weekly Key Stage 4 Drama club which is very popular and gives students the opportunity to work with like minded individuals across other year groups, including younger Gifted and Talented students. There is also a weekly club that meets to support students who want extra support with both written and practical Drama coursework, and help with auditions for both Devon and The National Youth Theatres.

In the summer term, students will have the opportunity to audition for the whole school production, which will include at least 80 students working in all areas of production including set design and construction, costume, make-up, lighting, sound, marketing, the band and of course acting roles.
